I was diagnosed with Dermatomyocitis 5yrs ago. I take Immuran,injectable Methyltrexate and 5mg.cortisone. I was brought out of severe relapses in the past - but this time I'm not bouncing back. The muscle destruction is so severe with this relapse, and I've lost almost 40 lbs. in the past few months & am so weak I spend most of my time sleeping (not at all like my usual high energy self!) This past week I had to stop the Methyltrexate because my liver function tests were very abnormal. I am truly afraid I'm dying & then, at times, the pain is so bad that I'd almost welcome the relief. I recently read about Immune Gamma Globulin being used to treat myocitis. I would love to hear from someone that has had IGG treatment, and if it was helpful. Also, what is the protocol? I'd be interested in hearing what others do to manage the pain. Are muscle relaxants - like Flexeral effective? I was so happy to find out about this website. I feel pretty alone with this & would be grateful for any info any of you could share with me.
